AG-3 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the AG-3 grade level:
• The motto "liberty" has been almost obliterated and the rim merges heavily with the obverse design
• The reverse design is just an outline and the rim merges heavily into it
• The first two digits of the date are mostly or entirely missing

G-4 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the G-4 grade level:
• There is no breast detail on Liberty's chest
• Liberty as a design is just an outline
• Most letter tops touch the rim on the obverse and reverse
• There are hints of feather detail in both of the eagle's feathers, but the design is mostly obliterated
• The date is full but weak and flat

G-6 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the G-6 grade level:
• There is no breast detail on Liberty's chest
• Some letter tops touch the rim on the obverse and reverse
• There are hints of feather detail in both of the eagle's feathers, but the design is mostly obliterated
• The eagle's eye takes shape

VG-8 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the VG-8 grade level:
• Liberty's right breast is faintly outlined along the bottom
• Only some of the feather detail on both of the eagle's feathers remains, but the design is mostly obliterated
• The rim is completely seperated from any lettering on both sides

VG-10 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the VG-10 grade level:
• Liberty's right breast is mostly outlined to the extent of a full line at the bottom
• Much of the eagle's left and right wings retains major details, but the design is flat

F-12 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the F-12 grade level:
• Liberty's right breast is fully outlined, including a veritcal line at the cener of the chest
• Much of the eagle's left and right wings retains major details, but the design is flat
• The date is weak at the top of the numbers

F-15 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the F-15 grade level:
• Liberty's right breast is fully outlined and the gap between the left and right breasts creates a line appearing as a "hook" at the center
• The details of the inner feathers of the eagle's left wing are clear, but the outer feathers are all flat

VF-20 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the VF-20 grade level:
• There is only a hint of Liberty's left breast
• Much of the fine detail of the inner and outer feathers of the eagle's left wing are worn, but all major details are clear
• The date is completely clear, but will touch along the top

VF-25 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the VF-25 grade level:
• Liberty's left breast is only slightly outlined, but the gap between the breasts is mostly visible
• Much of the fine detail of the inner and outer feathers of the eagle's left wing are worn, but major details are clear
• The eagle's right wing has some detail

VF-30 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the VF-30 grade level:
• Liberty's left breast is outlined close to the center of the chest and to the viewer's right
• Most of the outer feathers of the eagle's left wing have blurred together, while inner detail is usually clear
• The date is bold

VF-35 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the VF-35 grade level:
• Liberty's left breast is almost completely outlined and is distinct close to the center of the chest and to the viewer's right
• The eagle's breast and left leg have little detail remaining
• Many of the outer feathers of the eagle's left wing have blurred together, while inner detail is usually bold

XF-40 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the XF-40 grade level:
• Liberty's left breast is outlined along the bottom though some parts are very weak
• Much of Liberty's left leg and gown are well worn
• The eagle's right wing shows wear, but most detail remains
• Some of the outer feathers of the eagle's left wing have blurred together

XF-45 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the XF-45 grade level:
• Liberty's left breast is fully outlined along the bottom
• Liberty's left leg shows clear wear
• The eagle's breast feathers and left leg are well worn along the center
• Both of the eagle's wings show wear, but the details are mostly complete

AU-50 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the AU-50 grade level:
• Some mint luster remains
• Liberty's collar comes into focus
• Gown lines descend from the bottoms of the breast outline
• Obverse high points of Liberty's left leg and left breast worn on top
• Reverse high point of eagle's breast feathers worn flat on top
• Both eagle wings show some minor surface wear

AU-53 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the AU-53 grade level:
• Some mint luster remains
• Light wear across most of obverse design as high points of Liberty's left leg and left breast start to flatten
• Light wear across most of reverse design as high point of eagle's breast feathers starts to flatten
• Eagle's left outer wing feathers shows some wear

AU-55 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the AU-55 grade level:
• Considerable mint luster may remain
• Clear wear on the obverse high points of Liberty's left leg and left breast
• Clear wear of the reverse high point of the eagle's breast feathers

AU-58 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the AU-58 level:
• Full or nearly full mint luster remains
• Light wear just on the obverse high points of Liberty's left leg and left breast
• Light wear just on the reverse high point of the eagle's breast feathers

MS-61 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the MS-60/1 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster, but luster breaks due to issues
• Marking, abrasions, or other imperfections that clearly impact appearance
• Generally below average eye appeal

MS-62 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the MS-62 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• Moderate level of marking or abrasions visible
• Average or below average eye appeal

MS-63 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

• No wear and full mint luster
• Very insignificant marking found under magnification
• Well above average eye appeal

MS-67 Walking Liberty Half Dollar

Primary considerations at the MS-67 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• Nearly perfect, with only the most minor imperfections found under magnification
• An extremely attractive coin
