Primary considerations at the G-6 grade level:
• Perhaps a hint of a letter of LIBERTY
• No headband bands and only the base of feather detail
• Only faint shield and wreath detail is present

Primary considerations at the VG-8 grade level:
• Portions of about 2 letters of LIBERTY show
• Parts of upper band of headband show
• Most shield and wreath detail is missing

Primary considerations at the VG-10 grade level:
• Portions of about 3-4 letters of LIBERTY show
• Upper band of headband is complete
• Some feather detail shows close to base
• Most shield and wreath detail is missing

Primary considerations at the F-12 grade level:
• All letters of LIBERTY show, but all or most are not complete
• Ribbon starts to take shape
• Around 1/2 of the feather detail shows
• Many shield lines blend
• Major outlines are clear on wreath but no fine detail

Primary considerations at the F-15 grade level:
• All letters of LIBERTY show, but some are not complete
• Some of bottom band on headband shows
• Many shield lines blend
• All fine details on wreath are weak at best

Primary considerations at the VF-20 grade level:
• Headband and LIBERTY are full but parts are weak
• Bottom band on headband is mostly complete
• Around 2/3 of the feather detail shows
• Some shield lines blend
• Wreath shows some fine details

Primary considerations at the VF-25 grade level:
• Headband and LIBERTY are clear
• Bottom band on headband is complete but flat
• Around 3/4 of the feather detail shows
• Some shield lines blend
• Wreath shows most detail, but wear is evident

Primary considerations at the VF-30 grade level:
• Headband and LIBERTY are clear and leter tops show boldly
• Bottom band on headband is complete
• Pearls around Liberty's neck start to show seperation
• A few shield lines blend
• Wreath shows most details, but wear is evident

Primary considerations at the VF-35 grade level:
• Headband and LIBERTY are clear and about half of the lettering shows boldly
• Bottom band on headband is complete
• Faint diamond detail may show
• A few shield lines blend
• All of wreath shows light, even wear

Primary considerations at the XF-40 grade level:
• Headband and letters of LIBERTY are clear and most details are bold
• Slight mint luster may remain
• Ribbon shows near complete separation from surrounding hair
• Some diamond detail shows
• Shield lines may slightly blend
• All of wreath shows light, even wear
• Feather detail nearly complete

Primary considerations at the XF-45 grade level:
• Headband and letters of LIBERTY show boldly with light, even wear
• Slight mint luster may remain
• Ribbon shows complete separation from surrounding hair
• Some diamond detail shows
• Shield lines may slightly blend
• High points of wreath leaves show wear
• Feather detail complete

Primary considerations at the AU-50 grade level:
• Some mint luster remains
• At least half of the diamond detail shows
• Only some fine detail on wreath and shield show wear
• All other details bold with a few soft spots

Primary considerations at the AU-53 grade level:
• Some mint luster remains
• Most but not all diamond detail shows
• Only some fine detail on wreath and shield show light wear
• All other details bold with light, even wear

Primary considerations at the AU-55 grade level:
• Considerable mint luster may remain
• All details bold, except ribbon diamonds which are full yet show wear
• Light wear on fine detail of reverse shield, but wreath appears boldly

Primary considerations at the AU-58 level:
• Full or nearly full mint luster remains
• All details bold including ribbon diamonds and reverse shield
• Only select high points show light wear under magnification

Primary considerations at the MS-60/1 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster, but luster breaks due to issues
• Marking, abrasions, or other imperfections that clearly impact appearance
• Often a brown coin, sometimes red/brown (for Bronze issues)
• Generally below average strike/eye appeal

Primary considerations at the MS-62 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• Moderate level of marking or abrasions visible
• Often a brown coin, sometimes red/brown (for Bronze issues)
• Average or below average strike/eye appeal

Primary considerations at the MS-63 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• A few marking or abrasions visible
• Usually a red/brown coin (for Bronze issues)
• Average strike/eye appeal

Primary considerations at the MS-64 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• Scattered and minor marking visible
• A red or red/brown coin (for Bronze issues)
• Generally average or above average strike/eye appeal

Primary considerations at the MS-65 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• Only very light marking is visible to the naked eye
• A red or red/brown coin (for Bronze issues)
• Above average strike/eye appeal

Primary considerations at the MS-66 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• Very insignificant marking found under magnification
• A red coin (for Bronze issues)
• Well above average strike/eye appeal

Primary considerations at the MS-67 grade level:
• No wear and full mint luster
• Nearly perfect, with only the most minor imperfections found under magnification
• A red coin (for Bronze issues)
• A very attractive coin with a great strike
